The Travelers on Netflix

I love SciFi...this has been well documented, so naturally I have to share my take on the new netflix series, "The Travelers".  Now, I'm just 2 episodes in and I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, (Stop here if you haven't seen it yet).  I have a real problem with the premise of the show.  They travel back in time to posses the bodies of people just after they naturally die in the past, our present.  Together they attempt to change history by preventing documented destructive events.  So in the first episode, they prevent the explosion of a bomb that would have killed 11000 people.  11000 people who were supposed to be dead are now alive but on the show, this should change the documented time line.  One of the abilities of the Travelers is having a thorough understand of what happens in the past, our present.  But as they do their work, this time line knowledge should become immediately warped because people saved will adjust the current time line.  We have no idea if one person who was supposed to be killed will then go to work the next day and get into a car accident which kills a family who was an ancestor to one of the Travelers.

I'm just saying, when it comes to time travel is movies and TV, they're two accepted approaches.  One, the past is set and if you travel back in time, you were always supposed to travel back in time so nothing changes, (12 Monkeys, Terminator, Looper, The Time Traveler's Wife, etc.)  Two and the more popular one is going back in time and making changes can change the future, (Back to the Future, Deja Vu, Hot Tub Time Machine, TimeCop, The Butterfly Effect, Superman, Interstellar, Edge of Tomorrow, etc.).  The second one is what the Travelers in based on but this involves a paradox.  A paradox is created when there is a change in the pass and the effects of that change resonate to the future.  This occurs because one change effects another change and that change effects other changes and this grows exponentially to a point where no one can predict the effect of these changes.  If I went to the age of the dinosaurs and stepped on a bug, we might all have one eye instead of two...who knows...so I think Travelers needs to deal with this truth...but then again, I'm only 2 episodes in...I'll keep you posted.
