But what about you: An open letter to Trump voters

I have often wondered how tyrants and criminals come to power.  This presidency has been very enlightening to a lot of people.  But I want to focus on those people who actually voted for him.  I have identified five types of voters who chose Donald Trump. 1. The Racist - This is the easy one.  Donald Trump and been spewing hatred and venom from the very beginning.  It helped that he was an old white guy because this easily associated with plantation owners from generations passed.  But in this age, the blatantly racist and subtly racist had someone they could rally behind.  He wanted everything you wanted: He wanted to segregate and marginalize and deport and separate. All this while speaking almost exclusively to white America...He was angry when the situation called for anger and unapologetic when the situation called for humility.  He was everything you wanted in a candidate and you got behind him. 2. The Conservative Christian - Donald Trump carried the Bible Belt states who ha

Netflix Iron Fist

Here we go again...Once again I will preface this by saying Netflix is a great medium for lesser super heroes in the Marvel Universe (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage).  But for this to work well, the dynamic of the character or the story has to be compelling.  Daredevil worked for a number of reasons...he's a popular lesser hero, he has a rich story line filled with memorable characters, his powers and fight make for good cinema (That stair fight seen was awesome).  Jessica Jones was cool (I'll admit I didn't know much about her except that her and Cage get married eventually). She was raw and rough, they never really explained her powers which added to the mystique, she was damaged which always plays well, and well, she was attractive which doesn't hurt...and the story was pretty decent.  Luke Cage was a stretch, character wasn't all that compelling and his powers were pretty basic.  Once you see bullets bounce off someone twice, it gets boring real quick.  He

The Crying Game - My take on illegal immigrants

If you don't know by now, I am an African American male born and raised is the U.S.  This disclaimer is necessary for the opinion I have on illegal immigrants.  A friend of mine once game me a scenario about the law to see what my take on it my be...it goes like this: A man steals your wallet and he is later apprehended.  This is where you are given two perspectives, while in custody you are told in one scenario that the assailant stole your wallet because he was down on his luck and he used your money to buy food for his family.  In the other scenario, you're told the assailant stole your wallet to buy drugs.  The question posed to you is, Do you think the prosecution should be different for each scenario? The reason I disclosed my race in the beginning is because being a black man (not politically correct but easier to type), we don't usually have an option and this reality is how we are raised.  Don't trust the law because the law will not give you consideration.

Star Wars, Rouge One, and Why it works

Star Wars is one of the cinematic staples of all time.  Many have tried and failed to duplicate its success (I'm looking at you Matrix).  I just saw Rogue One and it fits perfectly between episodes 3 and 4, so much so that I would even recommend inserting it into any marathon viewing of the movies.  It got me to thinking about why the movies have worked for so long. Besides its immense popularity, Star Wars is an entity which is built upon itself.  It honors the original story so much that they (Disney and Lucas Films) have been able to integrate more stories and characters into the narrative; while always respecting the time line and original story.  There are a few movie studios which attempt to do the same thing, most notably, Marvel (also Disney) and the Avengers.  They've done a decent job but no one cares about these characters all that much and they just keep introducing more.  I mean how many fist fights can a team have?  Then there's DC, who continues to ruin the

The Travelers on Netflix

I love SciFi...this has been well documented, so naturally I have to share my take on the new netflix series, "The Travelers".  Now, I'm just 2 episodes in and I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, (Stop here if you haven't seen it yet).  I have a real problem with the premise of the show.  They travel back in time to posses the bodies of people just after they naturally die in the past, our present.  Together they attempt to change history by preventing documented destructive events.  So in the first episode, they prevent the explosion of a bomb that would have killed 11000 people.  11000 people who were supposed to be dead are now alive but on the show, this should change the documented time line.  One of the abilities of the Travelers is having a thorough understand of what happens in the past, our present.  But as they do their work, this time line knowledge should become immediately warped because people saved will adjust the current

This Superman Wonder Woman thing

Image
So I like superhero movies and I've watched a lot of the cartoons and stuff like that.  Marvel easily has more established characters but DC has the big 3, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.  They seem to inject those 3 or at least 2 of them in everything they do.  I really love their animated efforts from Under the Red Hood (the best one) to Young Justice.  But I've noticed that they don't seem to know what to do about Superman and Wonder Woman together.  They seem to really want to promote a relationship there which is news to avid fans because they have historically been linked to other people.  With Superman, it's always been Lois Lane and Wonder Woman has been about Steve Trevor.  This is how I've always known it to be from the original TV shows to the Christopher Reeves movies.  But now they seem to jump all over the place, I'll explain it in context: The Justice League  cartoon which later morphed into Justice League Unlimited was a pretty cool series
