What is sexy?

Image
It's been a while...pandemic life, right!!  Well, one silver lining is that this time has given me a lot of perspective...it has allowed me to flesh out my ideas and even change a few.  It's good to just sit back, look around, and ponder. The current idea which I'm currently tossing around is....well, let's start with a brief backstory.  I have been watching a lot of movies (Pandemic) and I started looking up some of the actors (They're all actors now, not actors and actresses...I think it's strange only because I was accustomed to the designation and did not see it as demeaning but I could be speaking from an area of naivety, so I researched, I thought this was a good perspective - https://www.playbill.com/article/actor-vs-actress-self-esteem-com-101726).  So I as started down this research road, I started finding myself in these forums of who is sexist and all these sexual ranking systems.  I found it interesting only because they were explaining themselves a

My wife and I are on a sex schedule....and it's glorious

Now let me preface this by saying my wife and I have been married for more than a decade.  We have two beautiful kids and our lives are pretty busy.  That being said, there was a time when I was in the mood and she wasn't...my sex drive has always been more than hers (I once thought it was like that with all men in marriages but I have since learned otherwise).  These times filled me be with bitterness and resentment and frustration.  It got to the point sometimes where my pride got the best of me and I really think about finding satisfaction elsewhere with someone who was interested in me and having sex (This was my move when I was single, I have my main squeeze and a few side pieces -*I'm not proud of it but it's true).  But I would never let it go beyond just thinking about it.  It was a growing source of angst in our marriage and began effective our simple communication.  I'd get so bitter sometimes that I wouldn't consider what she'd say or what she wanted

MeToo? Part 2

That latest MeToo? post was written back in February and a lot has happen since then.  I am glad we are in the midst of this Supreme Court nomination because Brett Kavanaugh's situation gives me a little perspective. So when I was in 5th grade, I kissed a girl...now she didn't want to be kissed by me and she wasn't even aware that I wanted to kiss her.  I was so infatuated with this girl that one day after school, I was walking with her and when I saw my opening, I kissed her on the cheek and ran.  It was innocent enough in 5th grade but it would not be the end of my "growth".  In 8th grade, there was an incident when a girl wore what I thought was a very nice dress to school and we were friends....well friendly...so when I saw my opening, I touched her behind.  She moved away from my hand quickly and I remember feeling so conflicted....I was happy that I touched it but sad because she didn't seem to like it and surprised that I had the courage to do it and

MeToo?

I guess this kinda all started with Bill Cosby.  It was brought to light but always implied that men with power use said power to garner, coerce, force, and/or assault women.  This is nothing new as it has even been glorified in movies and television over the years.  Bill's situation was different...there were "allegedly" drugs involved and numerous women came forward.  But why did it take so long for these women to come forward with allegations from as far as 30 years ago?   Because they got compensated and once the money ran out...then they were victims.  No I'm not trying to justify what he did in any capacity but the question has to be asked....did they put themselves in positions to get paid?  The media has labeled some of them as innocent encounters but many of them are "in his hotel room", "at his house", "in his dressing room".  There seems to be an air or naivety or complicity to some of these stories and alot of these women don&

But what about you: An open letter to Trump voters

I have often wondered how tyrants and criminals come to power.  This presidency has been very enlightening to a lot of people.  But I want to focus on those people who actually voted for him.  I have identified five types of voters who chose Donald Trump. 1. The Racist - This is the easy one.  Donald Trump and been spewing hatred and venom from the very beginning.  It helped that he was an old white guy because this easily associated with plantation owners from generations passed.  But in this age, the blatantly racist and subtly racist had someone they could rally behind.  He wanted everything you wanted: He wanted to segregate and marginalize and deport and separate. All this while speaking almost exclusively to white America...He was angry when the situation called for anger and unapologetic when the situation called for humility.  He was everything you wanted in a candidate and you got behind him. 2. The Conservative Christian - Donald Trump carried the Bible Belt states who ha

Netflix Iron Fist

Here we go again...Once again I will preface this by saying Netflix is a great medium for lesser super heroes in the Marvel Universe (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage).  But for this to work well, the dynamic of the character or the story has to be compelling.  Daredevil worked for a number of reasons...he's a popular lesser hero, he has a rich story line filled with memorable characters, his powers and fight make for good cinema (That stair fight seen was awesome).  Jessica Jones was cool (I'll admit I didn't know much about her except that her and Cage get married eventually). She was raw and rough, they never really explained her powers which added to the mystique, she was damaged which always plays well, and well, she was attractive which doesn't hurt...and the story was pretty decent.  Luke Cage was a stretch, character wasn't all that compelling and his powers were pretty basic.  Once you see bullets bounce off someone twice, it gets boring real quick.  He

The Crying Game - My take on illegal immigrants

If you don't know by now, I am an African American male born and raised is the U.S.  This disclaimer is necessary for the opinion I have on illegal immigrants.  A friend of mine once game me a scenario about the law to see what my take on it my be...it goes like this: A man steals your wallet and he is later apprehended.  This is where you are given two perspectives, while in custody you are told in one scenario that the assailant stole your wallet because he was down on his luck and he used your money to buy food for his family.  In the other scenario, you're told the assailant stole your wallet to buy drugs.  The question posed to you is, Do you think the prosecution should be different for each scenario? The reason I disclosed my race in the beginning is because being a black man (not politically correct but easier to type), we don't usually have an option and this reality is how we are raised.  Don't trust the law because the law will not give you consideration.
